Haters Gonna Hate

Except now it's gone to a whole new level. Have you heard of the Holderness family? I discovered them last year when they came out with their catchy Christmas Jammies You Tube video.

I'm not a dedicated follower but their videos always make me click and laugh when they pop up in my Facebook news feed. Since then I've seen their back to school video and most recently, the Thanksgiving one, "All about That Baste". I happen to appreciate their videos and all the work and ideas that go into them. I sure couldn't do it.

After watching the Thanksgiving one the other day, I started reading some of the comments. People can be so ugly! Sure their stuff might come off as a little braggy, but wouldn't you be proud of yourself for completing a marathon? For scoring a part in the Iron Man movie? That your kid can count to 100 in Chinese? I would....and I'd tell people out of my own excitement. The highlights of their year included in their "Video Christmas Card".

Some of the comments talked about the dislike for them being "tan and fit with perfect white teeth". Seriously? I hate to pull the "they must be jealous" card because that isn't always the case and it annoys me when people do that, but why? So what if their teeth are perfect? Either they came natural or they paid a lot of money for them. Who cares? It takes work for most people to be fit. If you put in the effort to be fit...go you. That's something to be proud of.

Oh, they're putting their family on display for money. If they're comfortable with that, that's their choice. Good for them for putting I'm sure a ton of time into their videos and trying to make a living out of it. Seems like it's working out pretty well for them. They aren't hurting anyone with their cute, catchy and light hearted videos and obviously a lot of people really like them.

I've seen it happen with popular bloggers too, good people. Others bashing them for the littlest things. Nit picking and tearing apart everything they say. Going as far to say that they don't love one of their children as much as the other. Just, wow.

I see it on our local news site when stories are posted. The comments are disgusting. Bashing families who have just experienced tragedy and making false assumptions. It's sick. Why? What gives people the desire to be so ugly?

Sure, I understand the sarcastic, "I hate them. They're so pretty comments"...or even just being annoyed by certain people. Aren't we all? Complain to your significant other or your best friend, like the rest of us do--But the public bashing? The hate? What's the point? To hurt someone?

The internet is a place full of a lot of awesome. It's also a place where haters now have the opportunity to hide behind their computers and type really terrible things. To think that there are people out there who think these things and who are that cruel....it really sucks.

  1. I see this ALL the time and it drives me crazy! If you wouldn't say it in person, don't say it on the internet!!!

  2. People can be so horrible! The videos in question really aren't my favorite, I find them to be kind of in poor taste. But I would NEVER post all kind of negative things about them. So rude. As for them making money off of their family, it's what every single lifestyle blogger does, so I really don't see the problem with that at all.

    1. Exactly! Some people do hate on bloggers for making money doing it too, which I just don't get either. It's pennies compared to the time put in. I mean, why not throw and ad up? lol

  3. I don't know why people would spend so much energy making hateful comments. If it's not for you, just move along!

  4. Hateful comments on the internet are so infuriating because it's a cowardly thing to do. *sigh* It's just so unnecessary. And is it really that much fun to be so mean?

  5. Agreed! It's so sad to see. I think it's only gotten worse in recent years because people feel like they can hide behind the security of their computer screens without thinking of how their comments might affect others. :[
